Two New Private Pilots
After several postponements due to rain, wind snow and
sickness it was finally time for more check rides at
Flanagan Field. Freddy and Sarah Wendland were ready on
January 31st,
Freddy's
16th birthday, but the weather didn't agree. On Saturday
March 6th several members showed up to support them.
The weather was great but just a bit cool out in the
breeze. Freddy went first and passed the oral and
practical with flying colors. When Sarah got started on
her turn the rest of us set up a table and chairs in the
sun out of the wind and ordered lunch. Sarah and examiner
Ed Holland took a break with us for some Andy's cheese
burgers. They got back to work on the exam and the rest of
us headed back to the runway 03 for a K7 flight.
Sarah passed her exam with flying colors as well. We now
have two new private pilots in the club. Congrats to Sarah
and Freddy! Click

Two Fresh Glider Ratings
On Sunday December 6th, two club members added the
glider rating to their Private Pilots License. It was cold
and the field was wet but with the help of some dedicated
club members David Manning and Calvin Mayo managed to get
their flights in. The check rides were scheduled for
Saturday but were rained out. Congratulations to David and
Calvin. The two are pictured below with CFI-G Frank Wendland.

Bob Neil Flies Solo

It
was a very cold Saturday, December 12th, but that didn't
keep a hand full of club members from flying. Bob Neil
first made a few training flights. Bob's third flight
turned out to be his first solo.
Congratulations to Bob.
David Manning removed Bob's shirt tail and we all
signed it.
Freddie and Sarah both completed their final
preparation flights with their Dad. They should now be
ready for their January check rides.
Schleicher Ka6-CR Flies Again
We
finally got some pictures of the
club K6 in
flight. There was great weather for
flying on the weekend of November 7th & 8th. The prior
weekend was a total washout.
We had a few flights Saturday but we
got really busy Sunday with a better turnout. There were
lots of K6 and K7 flights Sunday. A few members will be
going for their Glider add on rating in December so there
were several K7 check ride preparation flights.

New Soaring Video Posted
In August Bill King showed up with his new 5 mega pixel
digital video camera. It's about the size of a pack of
cigarettes so we mounted it on the glider wing tip. After
initial flights Bill found that it's limited to 25 minute
clips regardless of available memory. That was a little
disappointing but the 25 minutes it does save are well
worth the effort. Not to mention that many of our flights
are less than 25 minutes long. :^)
One weekend we planned some air to air work with the
tow plane. Rick and Calvin loaded up in the Super Cub with
another video camera. Bill and Freddie flew the K7. Check
out the movie Bill put together from that flight. It can
be found on YouTube with the following link. (

creation on YouTube (Ka7 Soaring #9 093009).
