Welcome to the East Carolina Soaring Club

We are a small but growing chapter of the SSA (Soaring Society of America). We joined together as a club in July 2008 to promote the sport of soaring. If you want to learn to fly or you're already a pilot and would like to add a glider rating, please come join us. If you're undecided and would like to take an introductory ride, check out our Rides page for more information. If you have any questions please contact anyone on the contact list.

Where Can You
Find Us?

We're located on the Flanagan Field (N08) airport, three miles east of Farmville North Carolina on US 264 Alternate. Take a look at MapQuest. You can find us flying at the field on most good weather weekends or you can check the Soaring Schedule for our status.

Nice Super
Cub Picture

Sunday afternoon, October 17th, Farmville resident George Oakey was on the dirt road at the south end of the strip taking soaring pics. I had noticed him on a few of the K7 tows so after the last rope drop I flew through the slot to get a better look. George rewarded me by sending this cool picture.

Taft Stallings Takes a Ride

Everybody's trying to out do each other with the nice digital SLR cameras lately. I believe Taft was shooting with a Cannon. Taft has provided some really great pictures he took on August 28th.

David Stowe's Schweizer 2-33 is Assembled

On Sunday afternoon, 11/07/08, the gang took a break from soaring and hung the wings on N233AH. Club member David Stowe purchased the 2-33 earlier this year and has been working on her ever since. The wings and fuselage were cleaned up and polished to get rid of the dirt acquired from being in storage so many years. She now sports new interior panels, seat belts, canopy, main tire, variometer and wing tip landing gear. She also received some touch up paint on the fuselage as well as fresh fabric on the door, elevator and horizontal stabilizer. The 2-33 also has a new N-number. Hopefully she'll be flying next weekend. More pics coming soon.

Schweizer 2-33 Flies Again

Saturday, 11/13/10, provided some beautiful weather for a first flight. This 2-33 hasn't flown in twenty years. Owner David Stowe made the first flight solo and then followed it up with a very special passenger (his wife). Four other club members also made flights in the Schweizer. We even had a guest fly his beautiful clipped wing J-3 Cub in from Raleigh for a soaring flight. It was another fine day at Flanagan Field..
